Minna Hope Foundation

How we started
The precursor to Minna Hope began in 2019 when a Pastor of 4 small churches in Southern Colorado brought to the attention of his parishioners the plight of many small villages in Nigeria that he had seen and experienced firsthand. The parishioners decided to raise funds for a water well in the small village of Jangaru. The necessary money was raised, the well was drilled and a distribution station with 7 water filling stations was built. The whole project was a huge success. Then Covid hit and for various reasons it was no longer viable to pursue aiding small Nigerian villages through this church operation. A few of the organizers of the Jangaru well initiative decided on their own to continue aiding the poorest of the poor who needed clean water and a basic education. From 2020 until 2024 three 3-room schoolhouses were built and operated in the Jangaru village by a few generous donors who wished to continue the original Jangaru initiative. In the summer of 2024, 6 people from the foothills of southern Colorado who love the Lord and love to serve God’s people decided to create a foundation to continue in the work in Nigeria. At that time work had already begun on a well project and school project in another Nigerian village called Kalaba. A southern Colorado family agreed to fund the entire cost of the well, school construction and school startup costs at Kalaba. In August 2025, the Minna Hope Foundation received 501 (C3) approval from the IRS. The intent of the founding members of Minna Hope who comprise the current Board of Directors for the foundation is to maintain the existing wells in Jangaru and Kalaba, operate the existing schools in Jangaru and Kalaba and continue to drill wells and build schools in more villages in Nigeria. Minna is a city in Nigeria in Niger state that has a very large catholic diocese with many small, poor villages in the diocese territory. Our foundation has contacts in the Minna diocese that can implement the construction of water wells and schools. The diocese lacks the funds to do the projects, so the purpose of the Minna Hope Foundation is to collaborate with the Minna diocese and generate funding to make clean water and education a reality. Hopefully, this foundation will grow into something much bigger, where many villages can break the cycle of poverty that they are currently trapped in!
